When life feels stuck defined by past pain, anxiety, or trauma EMDR can free both mind and body from their grip
EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess traumatic or overwhelming memories so they lose their emotional intensity.

It offers a rapid, effective, long-lasting change and is recognised worldwide as one of the most effective treatments for trauma. Research shows that for many people, a single traumatic memory can be resolved in as few as 6–8 sessions, with lasting results.

EMDR can significantly reduce or even eliminate symptoms such as:

  • Flashbacks and nightmares

  • Intrusive thoughts and images

  • Anxiety, panic, and hypervigilance

  • Disturbed sleep

  • Feelings of shame, guilt, or helplessness

Clients often describe EMDR as life-changing a therapy that finally helps them feel calm, clear, and back in control of their lives.

What EMDR Helps With

EMDR is highly effective for:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks

  • Depression and persistent low mood

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and intrusive thoughts

  • Complex PTSD and childhood trauma

  • Phobias and fears

  • Dissociation and feeling detached

  • Chronic stress and burnout

  • Complicated grief and loss

  • The emotional impact of chronic pain.

Research highlights:

  • EMDR has been shown to significantly reduce symptoms of depression when trauma plays a role (Carletto et al., 2017).

  • Studies demonstrate EMDR’s effectiveness with OCD, reducing intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviours (Nazari et al., 2011).

  • It has also been successfully applied in chronic pain management, helping to reduce the emotional suffering linked to physical pain (de Roos et al., 2010).

What to Expect in EMDR Therapy

EMDR is a structured therapy, but it doesn’t involve reliving painful memories in detail. Instead, it helps your brain reprocess experiences in a safe and manageable way.

A typical course of EMDR includes:

  • History & Preparation – We take time to understand your background and help you feel safe and supported.

  • Targeting Memories – Together we identify the memories, images, or feelings that are still affecting you.

  • Reprocessing – Using eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, your brain begins to “unfreeze” the memory and file it away more adaptively.

  • Integration – Distressing feelings and beliefs lose their intensity, allowing calmer, more balanced perspectives to emerge.

Many people notice improvements within just a few sessions. Research shows EMDR can bring lasting change without requiring months or years of talking therapy.

Before EMDR I felt constantly on edge, anxious and easily overwhelmed. It was like the past was always there with me, just beneath the surface. After just a few sessions of EMDR with Victoria it felt like something finally shifted. It’s as though that weight has lifted and I feel like myself again.”

Evidence & Recognition

EMDR is one of the most widely researched psychotherapies for trauma. Over 30 years of clinical studies show it to be highly effective for reducing symptoms of PTSD and other trauma-related difficulties.NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) recommends EMDR as a first-line treatment for PTSD in the UK.The World Health Organization (WHO) recognises EMDR as an effective therapy for adults, adolescents, and children.Research trials show that many people experience significant symptom reduction in as few as 6–12 sessions.Beyond trauma, EMDR has growing evidence for helping with anxiety, depression, phobias, complicated grief, and chronic pain.EMDR’s recognition by leading international health bodies gives clients confidence that they are choosing a therapy supported by science, not just theory.

EMDR Intensives

While many clients choose to work through EMDR therapy in regular sessions, some people prefer a more focused and accelerated approach.

EMDR intensives involve working together for longer or more concentrated periods of time, allowing us to process material more deeply and often make meaningful progress in a shorter timeframe. This approach can be particularly helpful for individuals who would like to address a specific issue or who prefer to work in a more immersive way.

If you are interested in exploring whether an EMDR intensive may be suitable for you, this can be discussed during an initial consultation.

Many people come to EMDR therapy after feeling stuck with experiences that continue to affect their present life. They may have tried other types of therapy or coaching and still feel stuck, or they may be looking for a more focused and effective way to create meaningful change.

Through careful, structured work, EMDR therapy can help process these memories, allowing people to move forward with greater stability, clarity, and confidence.

If you would like to explore whether EMDR therapy could help, you are welcome to arrange an initial consultation.
