  • A meta-analysis of clinical trials found that people receiving hypnosis had greater reductions in anxiety than 79% of control participants, with effects growing stronger at follow-up (99% better than controls).

  • In pain management, reviews show around 75% of people experience substantial relief compared with standard care or other psychological interventions.

  • In sleep research, over half of clinical trials (58.3%) report improvements in sleep quality and duration with hypnosis.

  • Hypnosis has also been shown to reduce fatigue and distress, and improve well-being when used alone or combined with psychotherapy.

  • The British Psychological Society (BPS) recognises hypnotherapy as a valid clinical tool, with applications in anxiety, habit change, and performance enhancement.
